MCR was specifically set up to purchase, renovate, and return commercial rail freight to the Stoke on Trent – Cauldon Lowe rail route. To date the first 8 miles in the Company's ownership has been renovated in record breaking time to allow a small scale reopening in conjunction with the Churnet Valley Railway whose lines connect to the Company's lines at Leekbrook Junction.
Further work is required to bring the line up to freight standard. Plans are currently being worked up which will allow this work to commence later this year along with the refurbishment of the lines back to Stoke.
MCR's objectives, described fully under 'The Project' section of this website, are to run freight and passenger services. The Company is closely associated with the Churnet Valley Railway who currently run heritage steam services along the newly renovated Cauldon line.
